Catherine Ford is a British actress born in Bloomsbury. After her father's divorce from the family, she was grew up by her mother godparents, and grandmother. As a young child, Ford battled obsessive/compulsive disorders and anxiety caused by the word association. Ford's interest in acting began in her early years. She joined the National Youth Theatre. After being admitted at the Sylvia Young Theatre School for brief time, Ford decided that it wasn't the ideal venue for her. Ford rather than applying to Central School of Speech and Drama and winning a placement at the third time she applied for and was awarded acceptance to Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's classmates. Shaun Dingwall was later to play regular roles in the shows Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford's television debut was in the 1991 episode Surgical Spirit. By the moment she was done with school, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". During the Nineties, Tate could be found on TV in shows like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Tate also regularly worked in the theatre, and later joined The Royal Shakespeare Company during its season 2000-2001. But Tate soon began to garner notice for her stand-up comedy, which she added to her repertoire in 1996.
